Chapter: 4209
This glass window and a deep distance separated them.
Neither spoke, simply gazing at each other quietly. If only they had another chance, things would never have ended this way.
The night shimmered with the glow of fireworks, while gray smoke hung in the air.
From afar, Alexis saw Leonel mouth, “Happy New Year!"
Tears welled up in Alexis’ eyes. Unable to hold back any longer, she turned away abruptly. Then she drew the curtain shut.
Shortly after, another text arrived from the same number. “Don't cry!"
Pausing briefly, Alexis replied, "Never return here again."
Leonel stared at the screen, grappling with her words.
He understood Alexis couldn't simply erase their shared history, but she still wanted to move on. Essentially, she didn't want him anymore.
Without sending further texts, Leonel lingered in silence before eventually departing into the night.
The next morning, as Alexis descended the stairs early on, she noticed Evelyn and Daniel were nowhere to be seen.
Waylen poured himself a glass of coffee, his smile subdued.
“Leonel came to pick up the kids this morning. He mentioned he'd bring them back later."
Alexis nodded quietly, absorbing the news.
Seeing her reaction, Waylen changed the subject. “Your mother plans to attend church after breakfast. Why not join her for some fresh air?"
Though hesitant about church visits, Alexis, feeling bored, reluctantly agreed.
But before she could leave, a call came from Leonel, reporting that Daniel had fallen ill suddenly and was now in the hospital.
Without a moment's delay, Waylen grabbed his coat. "Your mother and I will head to the hospital straight away."
Upon hearing the news, Alexis clung to Waylen's arm, her voice tinged with worry. "I'll come with you."
Waylen nodded after a moment. "Sure. We'll go together."
