Chapter: 4342
The phone was picked up on the first ring, but before he could say anything, Leonel promptly said, "I'll be right there."
Marcus was surprised.
He stared at the phone for a moment before putting it back into his pocket. Then he turned to Waylen and Rena, and said, “He'll soon be here."
By the time Leonel arrived, Korbyn's condition had worsened. The doctors had to rush him back to the OR, but they soon found that he wasn't really responding to treatment.
About 30 minutes later, the attending physician emerged from the OR.
After removing his mask, he said to Waylen, "Mr. Fowler, I'm sorry. We tried our best, but there's nothing more we can do. There's still some time though. You can take the opportunity to say your goodbyes to the patient."
Waylen's hands were trembling as he Listened to the doctor say this.
Rena leaned on his shoulder, unable to hold back her tears anymore.
It took a moment for Waylen to suppress his emotions. Then he said to her, “Don't cry, Rena. Let's go in and say our final goodbye to him."
His voice was trembling as he spoke and tears were streaming down his cheeks.
He just could not easily accept the fact that his father was about to pass away.
Waylen and Rena were the first to enter the room. By now, the medical staff had already left, leaving only the patient and the faint hum of Life-supporting machines.
Even though Korbyn was practically hanging on by a thread, he was still quite conscious.
He opened his eyes and asked his son in a murmur, "Where's Cecilia and Mark? Why aren't they here?"
Waylen bent down and replied, speaking in his ear, “They're on their way already. Their plane just landed.”
“That's good. That's good."
Korbyn repeated this phrase several times. He really wanted to see his daughter. He felt that even though Cecilia wasn't very bright, she had been doing okay all these years. Clearly, Mark had not let her down.
After some time, he went silent and closed his eyes slightly.
Waylen lowered his head as tears welled up in his eyes. He wanted to say a lot more to his father, but he knew that he didn't have much time left. Fighting back his grief, he called his children in so they could bid farewell to Korbyn.
"Don't cry. No one should cry," he admonished them.
