Chapter: 4343
“Waylen," Korbyn suddenly said. "I'll soon be with your mother. I've missed her all these years, but she never comes to me in my dreams. I'm afraid if I delay, I might not find her. I'd better go and be with her as quickly as possible. Don't be sad. I'll be fine."
Everyone's eyes were filled with tears as they listened to Korbyn, but no one dared to cry. They didn't want to make Waylen more upset than he already was.
At this point, Cecilia and Mark suddenly rushed in.
Olivia, being the youngest member of the family, couldn't keep herself from crying as she hugged Korbyn. Korbyn held her and stroked her hair, thinking all the while that she resembled Cecilia a lot.
He was saddened by the fact that he would never have the chance to see her start a family.
"Dad!" Cecilia shouted and broke down in tears. She just couldn't find the words to express how she felt. Even though she knew that death was a natural process, she still couldn't accept it.
After Korbyn passed away, she and her brother would be left without a parent.
Waylen walked over and gently held her shoulder. “Cecilia, be strong," he admonished like the man that he was.
Cecilia hugged him tightly and cried even more.
Meanwhile, Korbyn was very near his end. He stared at Alexis, wanting to speak to her, but he just couldn't utter a word. Alexis knew that the old man wanted to ask about Leonel.
She quickly leaned closer, with tears streaming down her face, and said softly, "He'll be here soon."
Korbyn closed his eyes tightly when he heard this.
Just when everyone thought that Korbyn wouldn't last until Leonel arrived, the door was pushed opened and Noreen wheeled a wheelchair into the room. Leonel now had the chance to see Korbyn for the last time.
"Grandpa," he said as he held Korbyn's cold hand.
Korbyn didn't have the strength to speak anymore. He only opened his eyes and stared at Leonel's left leg.
He repeatedly tried to open his mouth in an effort to say something.
He wanted to talk about the car accident. He'd always felt that they needed to reveal the truth to Alexis.
But now, it was too late. He couldn't even speak.
But Leonel seemed to know what he wanted to say.
He leaned in closer and whispered in Korbyn's ear, "I'll take care of Alexis and the kids for the rest of my life."
