Chapter: 4352
She went up the stairs, flicking off the water droplets from her hair. Behind her, Waylen's voice trailed slowly. “Your mother mentioned someone she wants to introduce you to. Would you be interested in meeting him?"
Alexis paused.
She figured her father was aware of Leonel's new girlfriend; hence, he asked this question. Normally, Alexis would refuse. But rejecting him now might imply a lingering attachment to Leonel.
After a long pause, Alexis found herself saying, "Sure!"
Marriage hadn't crossed her mind, but perhaps she could dip her toes into the dating pool.
Why not? Even Leonel was out there dating.
With that, Alexis hurried upstairs faster than before.
Waylen remained silent, leaning against the back of the sofa. Sensing apprehension that he might blame her, the servant spoke in a subdued tone. "Sir, I've been diligent in my duties all along."
Waylen was well aware. He replied gently, "I know. Carry on with your tasks."
Then the servant left in a hurry.
Waylen felt weary. He closed his eyes, reminiscing about the day Korbyn passed away. He had been there, and he recalled Leonel's promise to take care of Alexis for the rest of his life. It seemed that this was how he planned to fulfill it-like a coward.
Just then, Rena came down from the second floor.
She settled beside her husband, whispering, "She seems upset."
Waylen reassured her, “Leonel's got a new girlfriend."
Rena was taken aback.
Waylen grimaced. "You find it hard to believe too, don't you? Who wouldn't? But Alexis bought it. I don't understand how Leonel got under her skin. I suggested a blind date earlier, and she agreed. Maybe they will both find their own happiness. "
Rena felt uneasy upon hearing this.
Waylen added, "Tomorrow, I'll arrange for the medicine Olivia brought back from overseas to be sent to Leonel. Despite his ongoing depression, his leg still requires further treatment. I believe he's starting to lose hope in himself."
Rena offered reassurance.
Waylen shielded his eyes from the light, sighing. “Among all these kids in the family, it's these two who concern me the most. Their relationship was supposed to be the strongest."
