Chapter: 4377
"I'm fine, Dad," Alexis replied softly.
“Don't lie to me, girl! It's written all over your face... Did you find out about Leonel's injury?"
Alexis blinked, giving Waylen a blank stare.
Seeing her response, Waylen didn't press further.
He retrieved the medical kit, and then carefully bandaged the wound on Alexis' wrist. Initially, Alexis resisted, prompting Waylen to admonish firmly, "Be a good girl, Alexis."
As he dressed the wound, Waylen inquired, "Now that you know, what will you do? Reunite with Leonel to repay him? I know it's not easy for you to sever ties completely; after all, Leonel and you have grown up together, and now he has sacrificed a leg. But follow your heart before deciding anything, Alexis. There are many ways to repay him. I just don't want you to get hurt, alright?"
Alexis understood what Waylen's was trying to say.
She listened in silence, reflecting for a considerable time before responding quietly, “Dad, I can't predict the future, but I'm certain I'll regret it for the rest of my life if I don't do this. More than that, I can't let him avoid facing it."
Alexis had seen signs that Leonel still harbored feelings for her, though his pride prevented him from admitting it.
He feared her disdain or pity.
In truth, Alexis neither pitied Leonel nor sought to repay a debt to him.
If she had to pinpoint her motive, it was simply that her feelings for him persisted.
Having heard her resolve, Waylen held back further comment. Since the car accident, he trusted that Leonel would no longer harm Alexis.
Their future would be up to them and them alone.
As a proud man himself, Waylen suspected that even if Alexis changed her mind, Leonel might not reciprocate. Pride made him as stubborn as Waylen himself.
After getting her wound treated, Alexis ascended the stairs.
As Waylen was about to request a tea refill from a servant, he noticed Rena at the doorway. Surprised, he asked, “What brings you back so suddenly? Did you overhear our conversation?"
Rena nodded, and then stepped into the drawing room, gazing thoughtfully upstairs.
Having shared decades together, Waylen knew Rena's concerns for Alexis.
He embraced her, whispering, "They've both been scarred before. Let's give them a chance to mend things! They've grown wiser through their trials, especially about their relationship."
