Chapter: 4384
The servant, a bit nervous, said, "Miss Molina, Mrs. Douglas is here to see Mr. Douglas."
Hester didn't say a word at first. She just stared at Alexis. After a moment, she waved the servant away, "You can go. I'll deal with Miss Fowler... Oh, and just so you know, she's not ‘Mrs. Douglas‘ anymore-Leonel and her are divorced."
The servant didn't appreciate that remark, and even though she was scared of Hester, she snapped back, "Mr. and Mrs. Douglas have three kids together, so they'll always be linked. They're family. And correct me if I'm wrong, Miss Molina, but you're not married to him yet, are you?"
Hester's face darkened at the servant's words.
Alexis, on the other hand, kept her cool and politely asked the servant, “I'm feeling a bit parched. Would you mind making me some herbal tea?"
The servant nodded quickly. “Of course! I'll get right on it. I've still got your favorite blend."
Hester hated how Alexis and the servant seemed to get along so well.
Even though Leonel only kept her around to make things look good, Hester thought she could still win him over.
This was her shot at something big, and she wasn't about to let Alexis ruin it.
When the servant left, Hester turned to Alexis and snapped, "Leonel doesn't want to see you! Why'd you even come here? You're a respectable woman, Miss Fowler. Chasing after a man so desperately like this-it's beneath you. Don't you agree?"
Alexis settled into the sofa, casually brushing back her rain-damp hair.
After a moment, she looked up at Hester and replied with a relaxed tone, "It's my business! Have you got a problem with that, Miss Molina?"
Hester knew Alexis was a lawyer, so there was no way she'd win an argument with her. Still, she sneered. "If Leonel wanted to see you, he'd be in the drawing room with us. But he's not, so it's clear he's moved on. Can't you take a hint? Don't fool yourself, Miss Fowler. Love fades-it doesn't last forever."
At that moment, the servant returned with the herbal tea.
Alexis didn't take a sip right away. Instead, she smiled Lightly and said to Hester, "You're right. No one stays in love forever. But Miss Molina, if Leonel really cared about you, you two would be married by now, wouldn't you? And if he held you in high regard, you wouldn't see me as a threat."
Hester felt the burn from Alexis’ words and couldn't think of a comeback. She was speechless.
Meanwhile, the servant almost cracked up.
She thought Hester got exactly what she deserved.
Alexis didn't stick around much longer. She took a towel from the servant to dry her face. Then she said gently, “Tell Leonel I came by. If he's not available today, I'll visit another time."
The servant was touched by her calmness.
