Chapter: 4446
He was still thinking about Alexis. He decided to leave work early at three o'clock in the afternoon. Instead of going home, he headed to Alexis' law firm. It turned out Alexis was busier than he had anticipated, having met with two clients back-to-back.
By the time she finished and went back to her office, an hour had passed.
Alexis opened the door and entered. Leonel was seated on the sofa, browsing through a magazine. His attire was notably sharp.
He was, perhaps, a bit overdressed.
Standing at the doorway, Alexis playfully rolled up the document she was holding and smiled. “Mr. Douglas, you're looking particularly dashing today."
Leonel looked up from his magazine and set it aside.
“Have you finished your work?"
Alexis walked in and closed the door. "For now, yes."
She poured herself a glass of water and turned to face him. After a pause, she queried, "You're here about those parents and students? I explained the situation, and they seemed quite pleased to transfer or leave. Why then did they complain about me to you the next second?"
Leonel stood and approached Alexis, concerned the water might be too hot.
Gently, he took the glass from her hand, wrapped an arm around her waist, and whispered close to her neck, “It's not a big deal, Alexis. Sometimes it's also about letting go."
Alexis remained silent.
Leonel thought she might be upset and was about to comfort her.
After all, upsetting her over those people wasn't worth it, especially since they had just reconciled. Leonel, now more temperate and attentive, was eager to make amends for past grievances.
At that moment, Alexis turned and embraced him.
Matching his height perfectly, their embrace was striking. Resting her head against his neck, Alexis murmured, “Leonel, you are lying. If you truly didn't care, you wouldn't have felt the need to smoke that day, and you wouldn't have pushed me away."
He remained silent.
After a pause, Alexis added, "You still think I could find someone better. But Leonel, your leg is not what it once was, and I have my own scars. Aren't we well-suited for each other now?"
He wanted to deny it, to argue that she was different from the others, that she was still perfect Alexis gently pressed her finger against his Lips.
The truth was apparent.
