Chapter: 4454
However, Leonel was more stubborn than she thought.

He spoke with a firm expression. “As soon as you return from your business trip, we'll immediately get married. The priest will have more availability after Christmas. I should've stopped you from going on this trip."

She leaned in to kiss him and quipped, “A long holiday might stir up some desires, Mr. Douglas. It's best if you take it easy while I'm away."

"Nonsense! I know how to control myself," he retorted.

Hearing his response, Alexis chuckled. "Well, then, have a good rest, Mr. Douglas."

At last, Alexis went on the business trip without hesitation, seemingly unaffected by the events of the previous night.

This left Leonel feeling somewhat disheartened.

He couldn't understand how Alexis could remain so energetic after their passionate encounter.

With Alexis gone, Leonel devoted himself to caring for their three children.

Though challenging, it brought him a sense of fulfillment.

He longed for Alexis' return, constantly thinking of her. He eagerly anticipated starting a new chapter with Alexis and their children.

Their reconciliation was cut short by her departure for the business trip. How could she leave so callously?

At night, before bed, Leonel attempted to call Alexis, but there was no answer on the other end of the line.

Assuming she was working late, he refrained from calling again.

Flicking off the light, he lay in bed, his mind swirling. It took him a while to drift off to sleep, only to be haunted by a troubling nightmare.

In the dream, he found himself back at the scene of the car accident.

Only this time, he failed to save Alexis. Frozen in place, he watched helplessly as she died in the car.

"Alexis!"

Leonel woke up drenched in sweat from the nightmare, his heart racing.

As he regained his senses, he immediately reached for his phone and dialed Alexis’ number once more. Yet again, there was no answer.
