Chapter: 4538
As he got into the car, he recalled his promise to Olivia just six days earlier-"Don't worry. I'll take Dylan to the airport and pick him up in a week."
But now, the uncertainty loomed-would Dylan ever return?
Edwin wasn't sure.
Marcus and Edwin met at the airport and set off together.
Dylan had gone missing, prompting both the Evans and Fowler families to mobilize extensive efforts to find him. They deployed the best rescue team in the region, with at least three hundred members combing through the area.
Over the past week, they had thoroughly searched the surrounding area, leaving no stone unturned.
Despite the exhaustive search, Edwin was not ready to give up.
He appeared visibly worn as he stood at the last known location of the helicopter, as per the radar. Staring at the empty horizon, he lit a cigarette, his expression somber.
Marcus, equally fatigued, approached and clapped Edwin on the shoulder.
“Have a rest, dude! You haven't slept for almost twenty-four hours.”
Silently smoking, Edwin managed a faint smile after a moment. “Did you manage to get any sleep, huh?"
Marcus looked back at him and gave a helpless smile in return.
Neither wanted to concede to the growing Likelihood that Dylan might not be found alive.
They just couldn't bring themselves to accept it.
Edwin gazed out towards the coast, clinging to the promise he had made to Olivia to bring Dylan back. He couldn't imagine returning without him.
Dylan's parents were also present at the scene, sharing in the tense vigil.
While Edwin and Marcus continued their determined search for Dylan even after an entire week, his parents started to accept the grim reality first. Dylan's mother, dressed in black, knelt and scooped up some soil from where the helicopter crashed into a small jar. Beside her, Dylan's father stood solemnly, his expression serious, signaling their resignation.
The sight caused a lump to form in Edwin's throat. He turned away, his eyes brimming with tears, and Marcus was similarly affected.
Holding the jar, Dylan's mother approached Edwin. Her voice was hoarse but gentle as she spoke. “Dylan's father will take over the company's operations here. As for his properties in Duefron..." She paused, overwhelmed with emotion. "Those meant everything to Dylan. After discussing it with his father, we've decided to leave them to Olivia and the child."
Edwin's brows furrowed upon hearing this.
Although Olivia and Dylan had never discussed certain matters about the baby, he was somewhat aware of the real situation and felt conflicted about the fairness of the decision.
However, Dylan's mother was resolute. "Dylan made a will, and this was his wish," she explained in a strained voice.
The revelation stunned Edwin, plunging him into deep sorrow.
He felt an indescribable mix of emotions. To him, Dylan was not just Olivia's husband but also a pillar of support for Laura back in her struggling days. In the past, Edwin had feigned jealousy of Dylan, but in truth, he had long come to regard him as family.
