Chapter: 4763
He felt like he'd given his heart to Elissa at this moment.
He thought she'd help him keep it safe and hidden.
He thought he'd never take it back as long as she wanted to keep it.
Following several turns, the Land Rover stopped at his residence's gate. Raphael glanced at the clock-it was already midnight.
As he unfastened his seat belt, he cast a sidelong glance at Elissa and softly inquired, "Feeling hungry? I can whip up something for you."
Despite lacking appetite, Elissa softly expressed, "I'd like some noodle soup.”
He agreed with a nod.
After stepping out of the car, he offered to help her to the living room. Elissa responded with a faint smile, saying, “I'm not that helpless yet. I can walk by myself.”
Raphael lowered his gaze, his eyes brimming with affection, as he regarded her.
Elissa looked up at him, her voice slightly trembling. "You should use the money you set aside for me and the baby to start over. I have my own money. Besides, tough times are ahead. We won't be living so comfortably anymore."
She wanted to tell Raphael that this was the biggest risk she had ever taken in life. She hoped he wouldn't let her down.
But then she realized that, since it was a gamble, there was no guarantee of winning.
Under the street lamp, Raphael looked at her quietly.
Finally, he gently held her fingertips and said in a hoarse voice, “Be careful as you walk. I'll go make the noodle soup."
She nodded and walked into the house.
Raphael watched his wife's figure disappear into the night.
The air was cold, and his jacket still hung on her shoulders. Though she was more than six months pregnant, she still appeared slender from behind. Her gait retained the grace of a woman from a distinguished family, yet she had assured him she was willing to face hardships alongside him.
After a long moment, Raphael headed to the kitchen.
He prepared two bowls of noodle soup with eggs and baked two sugar-free cupcakes.
As he placed them on the table, he said softly, “It seems I haven't cooked for you since we got married."
He cut a small piece of the cupcake for her.
"I hope it's a boy," he continued. "I'd like to name him Jarvis. If it's a girl, I'd feel sorry for her having to endure hardship with me."
Elissa ate gracefully.
After a while, she said gently, "I'll take good care of our child. I'll take them to amusement parks and buy them toys and treats. But Raphael, you need to work hard so we can live well. I'll be fine not living in a fancy villa like this, but I don't want to share a place with others. I want at least a studio apartment."
