She nodded.
Just then, the waiter arrived with their orders, expertly balanced on a tray, and began to set the dishes out before them.
Holley took a sip of her soy milk, nodded in approval, and handed Luis the glass. “Pack up the rest; we'll take it with us. Save them for your afternoon tea, Luis."
Hearing that, he mustered a faint smile.
He hadn't had a spare moment for afternoon tea in ages, and the thought of reheating breakfast leftovers was utterly unappealing.
But he didn't refuse her.
He found her refreshingly honest and charming, a breath of fresh air compared to the women he'd dated before. He couldn't help but think that marrying her would bring him a lifetime of happiness.
As the waiters packed up the food, Holley gave him a reassuring smile, trying to ease his frustration after the long wait.
"I'll wait for you in the car," Luis said, already heading towards the door.
Holley sighed in relief.
As soon as he was gone, the friendly waiter leaned in and whispered, "Wow, where did you land that catch? He's a real keeper, isn't he? Seems loaded as well. Hey, is he married yet?"
Holley's face reddened all of a sudden. “We're in love, and he's definitely single."
The waiter raised an eyebrow, skeptical of her claim.
She didn't bother to explain things further.
Holley felt a little aggrieved, her hurt silence echoing through the air as she put the packed breakfast in the car, her actions stiff and subdued. Luis' eyes met hers, filled with a mix of curiosity and concern, as he gently asked, "What's wrong, Holley?"
His gentle tone was tempered by a subtle detachment.
Holley bit her lips, hesitating before asking, "Mr. Mendez, are we truly compatible?"
Hearing this, Luis remained calm, his expression serene. After a five-minute drive, he broke the silence, his voice tinged with vulnerability, asking, “Don't you want to be with me?"
He didn't mean to persuade her.
She paused, collecting her thoughts, and then corrected herself, saying, "No, that's not what I meant."
