Chapter: 1663
Sonia was stunned. She had mastered sneaking out early. It was impossible for her to get caught.
She turned around and saw her new boss, Maxwell.
Sonia's lips twitched. She had sensed something off when she learned he was her new boss. But she had ignored the feeling. After all, she had signed a contract. His only job was to pay her on time.
"Who said I'm leaving early?" Sonia met his gaze and forced an awkward smile. "I'm just getting ready to leave."
"Regardless, you're halfway out the door, and I expect a certain level of commitment and professionalism from my staff," Maxwell said, raising an eyebrow and crossing his arms.
“Being the boss doesn't give you the right to be inhuman. You don't have to be so unreasonable," Sonia retorted, her anger rising.
“Yes, I'm unreasonable. What are you going to do about it?" Maxwell smirked as he saw her frustration.
Sonia was at a loss for words, her teeth clenched in frustration.
What could she do? Nothing. After all, he was the boss, and he did pay her well.
Sonia had no option but to swallow her anger and return to her desk to wait until she could get off work.
After some time, she glanced at the office clock and stood up to leave.
Little did she know Maxwell was watching her closely. As she stepped out of the office, he stopped her once more.
"It's time for me to clock out, boss," Sonia said with a fake smile as she turned to look at him. She believed he had no grounds to stop her now, but she was wrong.
"There's one more manuscript that needs to be finished. I need you to complete that before you go," Maxwell said.
"Why are you asking me to do this now? I can't stay late today!"
Sonia shouted, overwhelmed by frustration. "I have to pick up my son. What if I'm late and something happens to him? Can you afford to compensate me for that?"
Maxwell was taken aback when he heard the news. He remembered Sonia's employee profile stated she was unmarried and was surprised she had a child at her age.
The revelation somehow irked him. With a frown and a snort, he asked, “What kind of man married you? He must be blind. I should send him to an ophthalmologist."
Sonia, choosing not to correct his assumption, retorted with equal disdain, "Well, his vision is certainly better than yours, especially since he doesn't bother people after hours."
The exchange sparked anger in Maxwell, and they bickered Like children.
