Melon clutched a stuffed toy and happily called out, "Godmother!"

He knew not to expect an answer. He placed the toy beside Sonia's pillow and climbed onto a nearby chair. "I've been really good today, and so has my little sister. We haven't gone to kindergarten lately, but my friends have sent us lots of gifts they made."

Sarah gently patted Melon's head and spoke to Sonia. "We're all fine here, just waiting for you to wake up. Remember that new Western restaurant you wanted to try? We'll go there together once you're up."

The doctors recommended talking to Sonia to help her regain consciousness, so Sarah often brought Melon to visit.

Sarah's heart ached as she watched Melon. Ever since Ariana disappeared, Melon hadn't been the same. The once-energetic boy had become much quieter.
