Chapter: 1919
Thankfully, since her arrival at this training camp, Bennett hadn't given her much notice. He likely saw her as a captive creature, awaiting the opportune moment for his predatory intentions.
Maybe he was confident she wouldn't be able to escape. After all, this place was filled with his people, making resistance seem futile.
So Ariana was only accompanied and blindfolded during morning and evening to go to and leave the training area.
Ariana, her heart pounding with fear and anticipation, finally arrived at the surveillance room.
She took a deep breath, slipped through the unlocked door, and softly closed it behind her. As she had anticipated, no one else was in the room.
After entering, she stayed near the wall and was vigilant for any unnoticed cameras.
There were several screens inside the room, and papers scattered across the floor. The room was dim, Ariana could only see things under the light of the screens.
Her hands grew slippery with sweat as she searched for the landline, her heart pounding with nervousness.
She soon found the landline beneath a stack of papers.
With joy in her heart, she seized the receiver and dialed the familiar number in her heart.
Clutching the phone tightly, she listened to the ringing, her mind filled with anxious hope for a connection.
Her prayers felt answered as the call connected.
Just as relief flooded Ariana, footsteps and voices echoed down the corridor outside. Then, the sound of the doorknob turning indicated the staff's return for their shift change.
“Oh no, they're back sooner than expected!" Ariana muttered to herself, panic creeping in.
Seeing someone about to enter, Ariana hastily ended the call, which hadn't fully connected yet, and ducked behind a nearby cabinet.
She crouched there, observing as the shift worker entered to retrieve some items.
The guy sifted through the stack of files, a puzzled expression creasing his forehead as he sensed that something was awry. It seemed as though someone had touched his belongings.
He composed himself and commenced a thorough search.
Ariana watched anxiously as he scrutinized every corner, even going as far as opening cabinets that were hidden from view to inspect their contents.
As he drew closer to her hiding spot, Ariana held her breath. Sweat trickled down her back, and she instinctively clenched her hands into fists.
