Chapter: 1935
Holden brought her a bowl of noodles with some bits of meat, a real treat she hadn't tasted in days.
As she ate, tears started to roll down her cheeks.
She was overcome by how much Holden had risked to save her, venturing into a place where getting caught meant death.
It had been five years since she had left Theodore, and she realized the depth of their bond. They were ready to face whatever came their way together.
Ariana vowed to stay with Holden no matter what after they made it back safely. Being away from him had shown her just how deep her feelings for him ran.
When Ariana finished eating, it was time for Holden to leave.
He brushed her cheek softly, his eyes full of reluctance to leave.
But he couldn't stay here longer without raising alarms.
He leaned in and kissed her softly, whispering, "Don't be afraid. I'll always be here."
Ariana nodded, watching him until he was out the door.
The door shut behind him, and she lay down on the makeshift bed he had just set up.
The little puppy came running over, playfully nudging her foot.
She picked it up and petted its fluffy fur, smiling for the first time in what felt like ages.
With Holden by her side, she felt they could handle whatever came their way. She was determined to get out of here with Holden.
Holding the puppy close, she said, "You want to stick with us, don't you? You need a name, huh? How about Nut? Does that name sound good to you?"
The puppy barked in excitement, its tail wagging.
Ariana chuckled, hugging the puppy tightly. Thinking of Holden, she fell asleep.
First light was just starting to break when someone knocked on the door.
Ariana was already awake. She quickly sat up and immediately turned her gaze to the door.
The door opened, revealing the man in charge flanked by his two assistants.
