Chapter: 1957
“Pitying me, are you?" Bennett's tone was sharp.
Ariana was about to say she didn't mean it that way, but Bennett suddenly interjected with a sly grin, “Don't waste your breath. I just made all that up."
Ariana was stunned. She had been emotionally invested in his story just now!
Ariana glared at him. Bennett, acting like he didn't notice her reaction, casually fixed her hair ornament and said, “You know, the higher you climb, the lonelier it gets."
“Lonely? You?" Ariana found it hard to believe someone as heartless as Bennett could feel lonely.
Their eyes met in the mirror, and Bennett's gaze grew intense. "Not so lonely now."
Ariana remained silent, curious to see what Bennett was about to do.
She couldn't help but wonder if he had anything interesting to say.
Bennett, not angry at all, leaned in, his mouth close to Ariana's ear.
His breath was warm, making Ariana shiver with discomfort.
Right when she was about to step away, Bennett said, “I've found something really intriguing now, so I won't be lonely anymore."
His breath on Ariana's neck sent chills down her spine.
Ariana fought back the urge to punch him, keeping her voice low as she asked, “What's so intriguing?"
Instead of answering, Bennett just chuckled softly.
Ariana understood something and instantly regretted asking that.
She was about to tell Bennett there was no need for him to answer her question when she felt his rough hand sliding down her bare back.
This caused discomfort for Ariana. Then, Bennett answered her question, "Teasing you."
His playful tone and his touch made Ariana feel like a toy. Her anger flared, but before she could react, Bennett quickly pinched her waist and straightened up, acting all business.
“The banquet's starting soon; we should get going," he said, walking out of the room with a smirk.
Ariana was left steaming, watching him leave. She had no choice but to follow, making a mental note to get back at him for this later.
