Chapter: 1959
A month ago, Mayfield had mentioned that his cousin's gym had gone under and that his cousin was looking for a job here.

But something still didn't feel right.

Bennett narrowed his eyes, staring at Ariana. “What's got you all jittery? Did you spot someone you know?"

Ariana felt a chill run down her back. Her hands started to sweat, and she couldn't bring herself to meet Bennett's gaze.

She realized Bennett never missed a thing; he was always watching, very observant.

She forced herself to calm down. Putting on a concerned face, she whispered, “Is everyone at this banquet a mob boss?"

Bennett kept his eyes on her and said, "So what if they are?"

Ariana said, “It's not really a problem. I mean, you are in this kind of business, so it makes sense that your friends are doing this, too. I've only seen this kind of thing on TV. Being around people like this is a rare thing for me. It's a little unnerving."

"Unnerving?" Bennett chuckled like she had just said something hilarious. "You've been here for a long time, and you're still rattled by that?"

"Of course," Ariana replied, still nervous inside. She was afraid that Bennett would see through her. “Everyone knows they could die at any time, but that doesn't mean they're not scared. I'm just an ordinary person. Being around all these people who wouldn't think twice about killing someone-it's a lot to take in. Besides, I don't know what will set them off. What if I say the wrong thing and they lose it? Next thing you know, I'm getting punched in the face or worse."

Bennett's eyes softened a bit, his guard easing. “Why would you think that? You're under my protection. Nobody's going to touch you unless they want serious trouble."

Ariana pretended to relax, letting out a small breath. "One last thing-these guys won't start a fight over nothing, right?"

"No, you have my word," Bennett said, stepping a bit closer, his hand brushing against her waist. “If you're really that scared, just hold my arm."

Ariana didn't really want to be anywhere near him, but she knew she had to keep up the act. She reluctantly took his arm and let him lead her inside.

With the crisis over, Ariana let out a quiet sigh of relief before walking into the banquet hall with Bennett.

The banquet hall was massive. In the center, there was a large circular table that looked like something from an art exhibit, surrounded by lavish decor. If Ariana didn't know better, she would think this event was hosted by the elite of society.

The place was already buzzing with guests, all dressed to impress.

Some people were in slick outfits, exuding that refined, classy vibe.

Others had tattoos covering their arms, giving off a tougher Look.

When Bennett walked in, everyone turned his way, greeting him with politeness and sliding into easy conversation. They were chatting about things like Halkon's latest results and reviews of new products-all topics that didn't really interest Ariana.
