Chapter: 2000
They had covered hundreds of meters when Ariana's energy began to wane. She let Bennett down among the bushes and stopped to catch her breath, only to feel a dangerous, familiar presence drawing near.
Slowly turning around, she realized the wolves had caught up with them.
Despite her attempt to distract them with the meat, it hadn't been sufficient for the ravenous pack, and the wolves were significantly faster than she was.
As the wolves closed in, despair settled into Ariana's heart.
It seemed like she was doomed.
She was utterly exhausted now, unable to move.
"Do you have any energy Left? Run and save yourself," Bennett said.
"I'm grateful for how far you've brought me, but I don't want you to die because of me. Don't you still want to find Holden? If you die here, you'll never find him."
Although he suspected Holden had died, Bennett fabricated this to motivate Ariana to continue.
“Is death all you can think about?" Ariana retorted, her frustration mounting with each syllable.
She felt weary to the bone, yet the prospect of finding Holden ignited a flicker of vitality within her. Dying was not an option.
She said to Bennett, "If you're truly thankful, then endure this pain. It's a far better fate than dying here." With the wolves still some distance away, Ariana assisted Bennett to his feet and urged him forward.
After running for a while, they spotted a small, seemingly deserted cabin. Ariana rushed towards it, shoving Bennett inside before collapsing to catch her breath. "I'll draw the wolves away. I can't keep carrying you; we'd both end up dead, Just stay here and wait for me to return."
“But." Bennett began to object. However, Ariana stopped him by slamming the door shut and darting back into the forest.
From behind the window, Bennett watched her vanish.
He couldn't fathom why she hadn't abandoned him.
He didn't believe she was afraid that he would contact his crew when he was alone. After all, the area was so secluded that even a detailed map wouldn't prevent one from getting Lost.
Apparently, there was only one reason: Ariana didn't want him to die.
But why? Considering his past actions towards her and the death of the man she cherished caused by him, why didn't she desire his demise?
Did she Like him? No way.
