Chapter: 2023
“What happened? What brings you here so suddenly?" Moss asked. His gaze then fell on Holden for the first time. His eyes bore into Holden with a sharp intensity as if he were ready to strike. He demanded, "Who is this? And why did you bring an outsider here?"

Bennett cleared his throat and explained, "Uncle Moss, there's been trouble at the estate. Our family's rival has caused considerable disruptions. We've been locked in a longstanding battle for control of the arms trade, and they've frequently dispatched assassins to target us."

Moss' countenance darkened, his tone hardening. "I care little for these matters. I need a straightforward answer."

Undeterred by Moss' skepticism, Bennett introduced Holden calmly, "This is Colt, my trusted aide. He's been handling external affairs, hence his absence before. Given the recent unfortunate incident involving the procurement officer, I've assigned Colt temporarily to manage your daily affairs. This should make things more convenient for you."

Moss paused for a moment, his voice strangely calm as he replied, “Is that so? This is quite a surprise."

Detecting Moss' mistrust, Bennett offered a faint smile and reassured him, “Uncle Moss, as your nephew, I would never deceive you."

Moss remained silent, his gaze fixed on Holden. He narrowed his eyes, observing Holden's calm demeanor. He thought Holden defied the stereotype of a mere assistant.

"Raise your head," Moss said to Holden abruptly.

Holden complied, lifting his head and meeting Moss' gaze calmly.

"Your name is Colt?" Moss inquired.

Before Holden could respond, Bennett said, "Uncle Moss, I've already told you-"

Frowning, Moss interjected, “Silence! I didn't ask you."

Bennett shrugged, gesturing for Holden to answer.

"Yes," Holden replied.

Moss stared intently at Holden, studying his features for a while.

Then, unexpectedly, he smiled.

Turning to Bennett, Moss attempted to sow discord. He said, "Colt possesses an uncommon demeanor and a voice equally remarkable. He looks like a leader. Bennett, if I didn't know you, I would never guess you were his boss."

Bennett, aware of Moss' cautious nature, wore a placating smile.

He said, "Uncle Moss, I've had a fall. Could you please attend to my wound first?" With these words, Bennett shifted the topic and delicately raised his left leg, revealing his wound.

Despite his serious injuries, Bennett exhibited no signs of pain, unlike an ordinary person who might have cried out by then.
