Chapter: 2051
Emilia wouldn't be a corpse anymore; she would be reborn and be his wife forever.
"Sixty, fifty-nine.." Moss muttered under his breath, his voice thick with anticipation.
But then, the room plunged into an abrupt darkness.
The rhythmic pulse of the machines keeping Emilia's form suspended in time sputtered to a halt, replaced by an unsettling silence.
Moss stood frozen, a statue sculpted from disbelief.
He stumbled blindly in the darkness, tripping over cables before crashing to the floor.
The silence in the ice chamber was deafening as the machines that had preserved Emilia's body shut down for the first time.
A crushing sense of doom washed over Moss.
Moss couldn't believe and accept the results.
In the darkness, he scrambled up from the floor, frantically searching for the light switch. But he failed. In his panic, he nearly pushed Emilia over to the floor.
With no other options, he flung the door open, aiming to hit the main power switch. But just as he stepped out, he was ambushed.
A gunshot pierced the stillness. Moss dodged the bullet by a hair's breadth and quickly drew his gun to return fire.
Holden initially seemed to have the upper hand, but he hadn't expected Moss to be equally armed and with a more formidable weapon.
After a few exchanges, Holden was nearly spent. Thankfully, he wasn't alone; Adrian arrived just in time to help him subdue Moss.
Bennett, meanwhile, stayed out of the melee. He figured Holden and Adrian could handle Moss. Besides, it was too dark to fight properly, and the risk of friendly fire was too great.
Who would save Ariana if he got hit?
After weighing the dangers, Bennett reached the main door of the ice chamber just as Holden arrived, and together they stormed in to rescue Ariana, leaving Adrian to fight with Moss on his own.
Adrian's marksmanship prowess didn't match Holden's, and in the pitch -black environment, aiming was a shot in the dark. So, Adrian chose to Lie low and shoot from the floor.
Moss hadn't foreseen this strategy, and his bullets soared high, not even coming close to grazing Adrian. This miscalculation gave Adrian the chance to retaliate, and one of his shots clipped Moss' thigh, making him howl in agony.
Realizing his blunder, Moss tried to adjust his aim, but his gun let out a futile click-his gun was out of bullets.
