The police arrived shortly thereafter.

The police patiently listened to each one's version of what had transpired. Then the experienced police officer looked at Maria in surprise and praised her logical deduction.

Thereafter, everyone involved, including Elma, Rylee and Judy, accompanied the police to the station to cooperate with further investigation.

Around eight o'clock that night, everyone was allowed to leave except Elma.
