Chapter: 1221
Isla's eyes darkened. After a while, she nodded silently.
Although she could read, she wasn't a student of any school. She was already almost eighteen years old, and yet, she had never even gone to a primary school.
"You want to read it?" Maria asked, waving the stack of papers in her hand.
In an instant, Isla's eyes lit up. "Yes!" she answered without hesitation.
She didn't even know what was written in the manuscript. She was just excited to read it.
"Do you have anything else to do tonight?" Maria asked.
"No," Isla answered honestly. "Doris told me that I can go to sleep once I'm done serving you."
As she spoke, she pointed at something outside the window. Maria followed Isla's finger and saw the broken-down two-story building next to the cowshed.
ALL of a sudden, Maria's eyes narrowed.
Obviously, Isla occupied the Lowest position in the Jenkins family. The members of the Jenkins family who were summoned, including Maria herself, were originally arranged to live in that dilapidated building today.
Had that plan pushed through, did that mean they were going to be treated in the same way as the lowest servants? "Isla, here's the thing. You will stay in my room tonight," Maria told her.
At the Jenkins family's mansion, Doris stood respectfully until the matriarch slightly opened her narrowed eyes. Then, Doris cast a questioning look at her and said, "Ma'am, according to your order, all the members who have been summoned are to stay here.”
She paused for a moment before adding, “Including Miss Maria.”
“Okay.”
The old Lady nodded slowly. Her eyes Looked like she was pondering over something.
She looked a wax figure straight from a museum. Even her subtle gestures didn't give any hints of life.
"She..." the old lady spoke, her voice sounding parched. There was a hint of disappointment in her tone.
"She's really alive... There were only two people in this room: the old Lady and Doris. Had a third person been present, they would definitely feel baffled when they heard those words escape the old lady's Lips.
What was so strange with Maria still being alive?
"The baby wasn't supposed to survive," Doris replied.
“According to your instructions, Cyril picked up a hair that had fallen from Miss Maria and secretly compared it with the baby's DNA that we've preserved. The result proved that Miss Maria and the baby from twenty years ago are the same person."
The old Lady let out a long sigh. She said, “The world really is so big that it's full of different wonders. The child's heart was almost necrotic back then. How did she manage to survive? Ah, perhaps it's fate."
Doris nodded in agreement. "Yes. It must be fate. No one would've thought that baby would survive by sheer luck. Now, it would actually be a privilege for her to serve you..."
Doris' voice trailed to silence. Her unfinished sentence held clear meaning, though.
