Chapter: 1254
Then... his refusal must have something to do with Vivian in particular. It was only then that Mrs. Jenkins realized that although Vivian used to be in the entertainment industry, her reputation was not really good.
Besides, what if Jack was a fan of Vivian's competition? At her old age, Mrs. Jenkins did not pay any attention to the trivial matters that went on in the entertainment industry.
Although she maintained a polite smile on her face, her composure was crumbling on the inside.
Even if this guest was a representative of the Sky Group, the Jenkins family still had a high status in Broome.
How could Jack talk to her in such a tactless way? However, she didn't want to pick a fight with him over such a small thing, so she compromised.
"Mr. Blake, since you don't Like Listening to music, I'll ask Vivian to come here and propose a toast instead," Mrs. Jenkins suggested, waving her finger to beckon Vivian over, leaving no chance for Jack to refuse.
Since her performance had ended before it even began, Vivian felt a little humiliated.
Having to make a toast to the guest was almost like rubbing salt on the wound, but on second thought, Vivian realized that it would at least give her another opportunity to impress him.
Thinking of that, she picked up a glass of red wine from Mr. Gonzales and walked into the hall in a graceful manner.
“Mr. Blake, I would Like to propose a toast to- What the hell? What...
What are you doing here?”
At last, Vivian had a clear vision of the man's face.
Sure enough, it was the same Jack Blake that she knew.
It was the man who always tailed behind Maria, carrying her bags and driving her around, on top of being her bodyguard.
How could this nobody be the distinguished guest of this household?
The Jenkins family came from a prestigious background that went back to ancient times, and they had deep ties with the culture and history of Broome. How could they Lower themselves as to treat Maria's chauffeur as if he was so much better than them?
Vivian had spent hours of planning, too, in hopes of winning the guest's affections. But it turned out to be this guy?
“Vivian? Why aren't you proposing a toast to Mr. Blake?" Old Mrs. Jenkins was visibly displeased by Vivian's gaffe, which she attributed to the young woman's bland personality.
“Well, I suppose I shouldn't have expected much from you. You weren't raised by our family, after all. I should have known you would behave so poorly in public. What a shame!"
"No... Mrs. Jenkins... I..." Vivian's face turned a furious shade of red. She was mortified and angry, and could barely string a sentence together.
Unfortunately for her, this only affirmed the old lady's preconceived notions about Vivian less than stellar conduct.
"It's all right, Mrs. Jenkins," Jack cut in. "I don't care whether she proposes a toast or not." He was a straightforward man who didn't care for things that wasted his time.
Of course, he already disliked Vivian, to begin with. He didn't give a damn whether she acknowledged him or not, much less drink to his honor.
He thought back to all the horrible things she had done to Maria, and his upper lip curled into a subtle sneer.
