"What's the matter? Did you come here to inform us about Mrs. Jenkins’ funeral arrangements?”

Reuben's knees almost buckled beneath him.

“Stop talking nonsense!" he spat out, a vein bulging on his forehead.

“Mrs. Jenkins is in good condition. You're in deep shit, young Lady!"

Upon hearing this, Julie anxiously rushed out of the house. "What happened? Why do you say that?"

Reuben turned and sneered at her.

“One of Maria's colleagues from the digital store came here with a complaint, accusing Maria of stealing something!" he told Julie in a mocking tone.

"You must be kidding me

Julie's face turned pale at the news. Her maternal instincts kicked in and she immediately stood in front of Maria to protect her.

But doing so was useless.

If Maria had indeed been caught shoplifting, then there was nothing she could do to save her.

Despite the futility in her actions, both Maria and Anthony were touched by her sincere gesture.

“What do you think you're doing?"

Truth be told, Reuben reveled in the misfortunes of others, but he pretended to Look concerned.

“I'm just a humble servant. I came here under orders to simply summon Maria, not to arrest her. An insider has come and wants to confront Maria. So she has to come with me."

As he spoke, Reuben motioned Maria to follow him.

“Please, Maria," he added.

Julie felt extremely uneasy about this. She stopped Maria, saying, “Don't Listen to him! Can't you see that this is a setup?"

Reuben pulled a long face. "Please, watch your tongue, madam. You're in the Jenkins residence. I doubt no one would have the nerve to frame Maria in the presence of Mrs. Jenkins. Besides, you're an outsider here. How dare you openly question Mrs. Jenkins?"

Julie bit her Lip. She didn't excel at arguing.

She felt especially embarrassed when Reuben called her an outsider.

At this point, Maria couldn't stand it anymore and stepped forward to rescue her mother from the awkward situation.

“Mom, don't worry. Everything will be okay."

Unlike her mother, Maria seemed awfully calm and collected.
