Chapter: 1399
"Ahem!"

Before Mrs. Jenkins could say anything, Canaan cleared his throat and spoke first.

“Maria, this man came here and accused you of stealing during your employment in a store. He claimed himself as your former co-worker. His salary was deducted because of this. However, he has no evidence to support his claim. So we just summoned you here to confront him. Don't be nervous. We allow nobody to slander you. If he's been lying to us, I'll send him to the police station immediately."

The reason why Canaan took the initiative to speak up first was to show his support for Maria.

After all, in his eye, Maria was still a young and innocent woman. If she became flustered at this, then she'd fall for the trap that was set for her.

“Ha-ha!"

As soon as Canaan finished, Mrs. Jenkins let out a cold, unpleasant laugh.

“Canaan, I don't think it's appropriate for you to have said that."

“Oh?" The corners of Canaan‘s mouth twitched, and he slowly turned to look at Mrs. Jenkins with a gloomy expression. "Well then, in that case, I'm all ears."

Mrs. Jenkins chastised him, saying, “The matter is still unclear. How could you say that you'd send this man to the police? Are you threatening him? The Jenkins family has always been fair and just. We shouldn't oppress others with our power.”

“That's not what I-"

When Canaan was about to refute, Mrs. Jenkins cut him off abruptly.

“Enough, Canaan. You're not even involved in this case, so keep quiet.” Mrs. Jenkins essentially deprived Canaan of his right to explain.

Canaan was so angry that his face turned livid, but there was nothing he could do but obey. After all, Mrs. Jenkins reined the Jenkins family.

Having dealt with the annoying Canaan, Mrs. Jenkins finally focused her attention on Maria.

“Maria, do you know the man in front of you?"

This question seemed simple enough, but beneath its seemingly harmless facade, it was a fatal trap.

Because Mrs. Jenkins already had collected evidence that Maria and this man were indeed colleagues!

If Maria dared to deny it, then she'd have lost the battle from the very beginning. Once Mrs. Jenkins exposed the truth in front of all these people, Maria would be at an instant disadvantage.

However, Maria's answer disappointed Mrs. Jenkins.

“Yes, I do know him. His name is Haley. We used to work together in the shop. My job was to sell products, while he was responsible for after-sale services, including technical maintenance. Oh, and he was also in charge of tracking inventory.”

It turned out that Maria had no plans of denying it at all. She even explained the responsibilities they shared at work.

Haley was in his early twenties, but he had a wrinkly, haggard face and a receding hairline, which made him Look Like a homeless middle-aged man.

"It's good that you still remember me, Maria!"
