Chapter: 1544
“Humph!" Without saying a word, Mrs. Jenkins extended her hand, signaling Doris. Doris handed her an envelope which she then presented to Maria, "It's from the Pill Alchemist Association. It contains the exam admission ticket and a rescheduling notice."
Maria's brows knitted in confusion upon hearing this. Sensing Maria's bewilderment, Julie snatched the letter, seeking clarification.
“Has the exam date been moved up?"
She skimmed the contents and her suspicions were confirmed.
The Pill Alchemist Association had rescheduled the exam for a mere three days away!
Julie's heart raced. Was Maria prepared for such a sudden change?
A detail on the envelope caught Julie's attention. The postmark date indicated the letter had been sent days prior!
Considering that both the Pill Alchemist Association and the Jenkins residence were based in Broome, local mail would typically arrive on the same day.
Urgent deliveries could even be completed within two hours.
Confusion turning to anger, Julie confronted Mrs. Jenkins, “Why is the letter sent here until today? Did you keep it to yourself on purpose?"
Instead of responding, Mrs. Jenkins remained silent, letting Doris step forward, her voice thick with disdain, “Really, Mrs. Smith?
You're not part of the Jenkins family. What makes you think you can stick your nose in our affairs?"
"You! How dare you!"
Julie wasn't skilled in arguing.
Doris' retort left Julie powerless to fire back.
In that moment, Mrs. Jenkins wore a smile.
"Please, Mrs. Smith, don't misunderstand me. As the head of the Jenkins family, I wouldn't intentionally create problems for Maria.
I delivered this letter personally because the guard on duty should have paid more attention to his duties, failing to report this crucial correspondence promptly. As a consequence, I've dismissed him."
When Mrs. Jenkins concluded her explanation, her smile grew even more radiant.
Nobody would buy into such a far-fetched story.
With the security guard already fired, there was no one to verify the integrity of her claims.
Such was the privilege of being the head of the Jenkins family.
She could wield her influence as she pleased as long as she set aside her integrity.
Barbara had already received the same notification, and Mrs. Jenkins had enlisted Elton to assist her in preparing for the exam.
