Chapter: 1585
"An esteemed guest?" Mrs. Jenkins' smile broadened. She knew that Reuben wouldn't jest about such matters.
"The Pill Alchemist Association has dispatched a representative.
They've already chosen an instructor for Miss Herrera and wish to convey the news in person!"
Mrs. Jenkins rose abruptly and declared, “Let us welcome the esteemed guest from the Pill Alchemist Association!”
In the main hall, every Jenkins family member in the main hall had their eyes fixed on the entrance. Mrs. Jenkins greeted their guest with a broad smile as he was introduced as the "special guest" from the Pill Alchemist Association.
However, the joyous atmosphere took a sudden turn.
Their guest was not what they expected. He looked incredibly young and his attire was that of a basic staff member from the Pill Alchemist Association.
Judging by his youth and outfit, it became clear he wasn't high up in the association's hierarchy. He might even be at the entry level.
The once radiant smile on Mrs. Jenkins' face started to waver.
She had poured her effort into creating a welcoming speech on short notice. But now, she seemed to grapple with her words.
Canaan whispered to himself, "There's no need for such grandeur. They only required a messenger, so they probably sent a low-ranking employee. After all, Barbara only passed the exam. There's no need to make a fuss about it."
He chuckled silently, finding humor in the overly formal reception for such a simple task.
"Are you the envoy from the association?"
With a sense of decorum, Mrs. Jenkins spoke to the young man. She felt slightly awkward, given the stark age difference between them.
Deep down, she felt a twinge of resentment toward Reuben. Was this really their esteemed guest?
“An envoy?" For a brief moment, the young man looked taken aback and then shook his head.
"I'm not of that rank. I'm merely a Level Four employee from the association's newcomer division. Since I had a task outside today, they asked me to relay a message to Barbara on my way."
On his way? Mentioning that in front of the Jenkins family was a mistake that he shouldn't have made.
At that moment, Barbara could feel her face heating up with embarrassment.
The entire household was in an uproar, all because a man was there to deliver a message.
Why couldn't they just give her a phone call?
A wave of mortification washed over Barbara. The lavish reception, complete with all its bells and whistles, just for a brief message?
It was infuriating.
Mrs. Jenkins shared the sentiment, her cheeks tinted with a light shade of embarrassment. However, she held her ground.
