Chapter: 1590
Barbara was determined not to salute Maria.
Having reached a decision, Barbara felt rather content.
She approached the young man and Maria, eager to share her ingenious idea. However, Maria beat her to the punch.
“I have a question," Maria began.
The young man swiftly replied, "What is it?"
Maria pointed at Barbara and inquired, "I don't wish to be her mentor. Is that acceptable?"
The young man initially looked perplexed but nodded diplomatically.
“Certainly, you have every right to decline to mentor any newcomers you aren't comfortable with."
Barbara was left utterly flabbergasted.
She had a far more suitable mentor candidate than Maria.
How had she suddenly become the one Maria wanted to avoid mentoring?
"Alright." Maria gave a confirming nod.
“Kindly inform the association about this. Except for Barbara, I can mentor the rest of the newcomers."
"Will do. Thanks for your precious time. I have other pressing matters to address. Have a good day.”
The young man hastily departed, leaving the attendees at the luncheon in shock.
Barbara was seething with anger, speechless.
“Maria!" Barbara exclaimed.
“Why won't you accept me as your mentee?"
Barbara had hoped to show off in front of Maria, but the outcome was quite the opposite.
Maria refused to be her mentor? And she said it in front of everyone?
This was a humiliating snub!
Mrs. Jenkins, now fuming, inquired, "Maria, could you clarify your earlier statement? We're all family here, and Barbara is your cousin.
You both joined the Pill Alchemist Association together. Why wouldn't you offer your support to her?"
It appeared that certain individuals’ audacity grew with age, and Mrs. Jenkins had developed an impressive level of imperviousness.
