Chapter: 460
Maria arrived at Blue Cafe on time only to find that Bill hadn't come yet.
She had to wait for a few minutes at the table reserved for them before she saw Bill swaggering into the cafe.
“A cup of Kopi Luwak, no sugar."
Bill sat down and ordered a cup of coffee for himself, without so much as say hello to Maria first.
Nor did he ask Maria whether she wanted to have something. After all, Bill didn't care about her at all, nor did he want to waste his money on her.
He had asked Maria to meet him today simply to teach her a lesson. After listening to his daughter, he had seen through Maria's plot at last!
This adopted daughter of his had not only gone to Broome to secretly curry favor with the head of the Smith family, but had also gained Julie's trust!
What was she up to?
The first thing that came to Bill's mind was that Maria had found out that Julie was in charge of a huge fortune-the "dowry" that Julie had gotten from the Smith family.
But Maria was just an adopted daughter. How could she covet the family fortune?
This led Bill to suspect that Maria might even have found out that Vivian was also adopted, and that was why she felt so entitled to it.
Julie's dowry was indeed an attractively large amount of money. Did Maria want a share of it?
But after careful consideration, Bill had concluded that it was impossible for Maria to know these things.
There were less than a handful of people who knew about Vivian's background, so there was no way Maria could know about it.
Julie had even promised him that she would take this secret to her grave.
Bill knew his wife's character. She was not the kind of person who would ever break a promise.
In that case, the truth was much simpler.
After realizing that she was not welcome in the Jenkins family and would never inherit any of their fortune, Maria must have wanted to get some benefits from the Smith family instead by getting close to Mathias and Julie.
A few minutes later, the waiter brought the cup of coffee and politely placed it in front of Bill.
“Miss, what can I get you?" he asked, smiling at Maria. Afraid that Maria would order something, Bill waved his hand and gruffly said, “She doesn't need anything."
