Chapter: 609
“I don't care about that,” Maris snapped again
“Maria, what's wrong? You don't like that I'm getting divorced?" Julie pulled a long face, trying to make herself Look dignified.
Maria inhaled as if her patience was being tested and shook her head.
“Bill is not a good man. I don't mind if you want to end your marriage with him. But you're the one suffering here, so why are you allowing him to act like the victim when he is the one who betrayed this marriage? And you're even going to give him a compensation for the divorce. That's just ridiculous!"
This was the Last thing Julie had expected to hear from Maria. She was surprised that Maria's annoyance at her wasn't because she cared about Bill, but because she was worried about Julie.
After all, Bill was still Maria's adoptive father. Why didn't she take him seriously?
Maria called Julie "Mom," but she had never given Bill the privilege of being called "Dad."
Julie had no idea what she had done to deserve this special treatment from Maria.
In the few months of fostering Maria as their daughter, Julie didn't think that she had cared for Maria any better than her husband did.
“Mrs. Jenkins, can I say something?" Anthony said, interrupting Julie's thoughts. Julie nodded, glad to gain any new perspectives on this matter.
Smiling meaningfully, Anthony pointed out, "Actually, I don't think you'll have to worry about whether you need to compensate your husband after the divorce. I bet that Mr. Jenkins won't agree to this divorce in the first place. No matter how much compensation you offer, he will try his best to make you stay.”
“But... why?" Julie's eyes glossed over with confusion.
With a peaceful divorce and ample compensation from Julie, Bill would be able to live together with Patricia aboveboard from now.
Why would he forgo such an option to stay with Julie instead?
Moreover, if Julie wanted to, she could sue Bill for his infidelity during their marriage and he would end up with nothing. It was only out of her good heart that she was offering him an amicable divorce settlement.
If anything, Bill should be grateful to her. How could he refuse to give her a divorce?
“Because of your father's inheritance," Maria pointed out coldly, and there was undisguised disdain in her eyes.
How could the daughter of a rich family not think of such a simple reason?
Once Mathias passed away, Julie would get a share of the hundreds of millions worth of assets that he would leave behind.
The shares of the company that Julie had taken as her “dowry” when marrying Bill twenty years ago was nothing compared to the wealth that she would gain upon Mathias’ death.
What was more, there was a good chance that Mathias, who had missed his daughter for the past two decades and had only just reconciled with her, might Leave the biggest part of his inheritance to her
And as long as Julie was married to Bill, her fortune was also his. There was no way that Bill would give up his identity as the son-in-Law of the Smith family before a share of Mathias‘ fortune reached him.
Bile rose up Julie's throat as all these thoughts finally occurred to her.
She had been so depressed about her father's impending death that she hadn't thought about the matter of inheritance at all.
