Chapter: 784
“Is that you, Miss Bowles?"
Jacqueline was taken aback but somehow felt good about her.
After all, Patricia had a motherly, gentle voice that was calm, mature, and pleasant.
"You... You are Ms. Hughes, the CEO of Hughes Group?" Jacqueline asked tentatively.
“Oh, it's so over the top to refer to me as ‘the CEO'. I'm just the head of a small film company. Miss Bowles, I'm really sorry. It's already late. I apologize for disturbing you."
That Patricia was polite instantly made Jacqueline like her more! Jacqueline revealed her very first smile tonight, and her voice went softer.
“What can I do for you?"
“Miss Bowles, you're a member of a well-known family and a leading figure in the business world among the younger generation. I took the liberty to get in touch with your assistant for two reasons. One is to make friends with you, and the other is to defend you against an injustice."
“Defend me?" asked Jacqueline, surprised at what she just heard.
"I have watched Taste of Childhood produced by the Bowles Group. It's a great show, really. You've put your heart into it, Miss Bowles,"
Patricia said, chuckling. "But it's a pity that a show this good only made Maria famous. She is not deserving of it."
Jacqueline was a little perplexed, but she felt very at ease when she heard Patricia reprimand Maria.
“Why do you say that? Why doesn't she deserve it?"
Jacqueline asked tentatively, feeling her heart began to beat faster.
“Actually, I'm a close friend of Maria's adoptive father. So, I do know some things about Maria.”
Jacqueline indeed didn't expect Patricia to know Maria personally, and she had a gut feeling that something positive would soon happen.
Patricia continued, "Unfortunately, given Maria's grades in high school, how could she pretend to be a straight-A student and fool everyone else?"
What Patricia said was definitely what Jacqueline needed to hear most today.
It actually made Jacqueline very happy!
She even wanted to jump for joy!
She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down.
"Ms. Hughes, please tell me what happened."
Rose was a typical sophomore.
As a single college girl, her primary leisure activity was watching TV series and reality shows.
