She did not bother to knock and simply barged in. There she saw a stack of a hundred books piled on the desk.
Sure enough, they were all Maria's books.

Maria was confused. What had Curt been doing?
Unlike other people his age who probably only enjoyed reading newspapers over tea, Curt was now happily and skillfully chatting online! What a hip old man!
Maria looked over at the table, which was covered with books, and kept silent.
She had good eyesight, however. So she didn't have to come up too close behind him in order to see the chat bubbles popping up on Curt's cell phone screen.
“Wow!" Mr. Dog spoke in a gruff voice, making it sound like he was a very old man.
“Are you really going to send us gifts?"
"Thank you, Mr. Dog!"
"Mr. Dog, you're amazing! That's so cool."
What the hell was going on?
Maria glanced over at the top of the screen to see the name of the group chat. It turned out to be one of Mia fan clubs from Sheffield.
“Don't worry, Maria. I'll always be your strongest supporter. Some haters said some absolutely insane things about you, and I'm not gonna ‘let them go!"
Curt said loudly, in an emphatic tone of voice.
Maria asked, "Are you seriously fighting with these online trolls?"
"I'd do absolutely anything for you!" Curt said, his pride for Maria clear in his voice.
