Chapter: 1880
"What?" Corless and Amirah asked at the same time.
They finished their question and immediately glanced at each other.
When Amirah just found out about Corless's affair from twenty years ago, including the fact that he had a child who was now in college, She felt a surge of anger but quickly regained her composure, pondering over the possibility of divorce.
Yet, Amirah decided against it. Divorcing would only open the doors for the other woman to officially join the Ramirez family, potentially handing over everything to outsiders.
Corless, feeling guilty, had been overly generous with Bettie. Should he pass away at this point, Bettie stood to inherit a substantial fortune.
However, if the other woman became a formal part of the Ramirez family, the dynamics would shift.
Corless was still healthy and could spend many more years with his mistress. He even contemplated giving the company to his illegitimate son. This would gradually sideline Bettie, possibly to the extent of pushing her out of the Ramirez family altogether.
Bettie had always been naive and straightforward, traits that worried Amirah greatly.
Now in her fifties, Amirah realized she had no significant desires left. She concluded that divorce would be pointless at this juncture.
It was better to maintain the status quo and strive to secure a better future for Bettie.
After deciding against the divorce, Amirah felt a wave of calmness and had a sincere conversation with Corless. Feeling remorseful, Corless agreed to transfer some of his assets to Bettie. The atmosphere between them had softened noticeably.
"Don't be shocked," Bettie remarked, glancing at her parents. “My boyfriend is planning to come over tomorrow."
Corless and Amirah exchanged looks.
Corless, with a puzzled expression, quietly reprimanded, "Since when do you have a boyfriend? You've never mentioned him before. Make sure he's not trouble."
Amirah looked at Bettie and nodded. Corless had a point. Bettie was smart enough to know bringing her boyfriend home meant she was either serious about him or had been misled. Amirah suspected Bettie had been fooled.
“Why would you want to introduce him if you think he's not good?"
Bettie questioned, raising an eyebrow.
Corless, slightly reassured, remembered his daughter's preference for good-looking men and inquired, "Did I introduce you two? Is it Lance?"
"Yes, it's him."
"Aha, so it is. You seemed unhappy about the blind date I arranged. Now you see I was right, don't you?" Corless seemed quite pleased with himself.
