Chapter: 1881
“Hatha.” Bettie couldn't help but roll her eyes. Corless knew about Lance through his friend. After Corless and Amirah had a look at Lance's pictures, they suggested Bettie meet him on a blind date.
Amirah inquired, "But didn't you mention you didn't fall for him when you got back? You told us he invited you to a bar, right?"
Bettie bit her lip, smiling. "Back then, I was really not in the best mood. I found him quite irritating, so I said that on purpose."
"So, what made you change your mind?"
Bettie tried to come up with an explanation but ended up grabbing Amirah's arm, feigning shyness. "Oh, please. Let's not get into that."
"Alright, I'll drop it. But you're seeing him, and you didn't tell us? Since you two are an item, we should meet him tomorrow."
“Sure.”
During their dinner, both Corless and Amirah occasionally probed Bettie for more information. "Do you know anything about his family?"
Corless' friend mentioned that Lance was a decent guy. Despite coming from a troubled family background, he was diligent. He even started his own company while studying overseas. Just last year, he sold it and was thinking about returning home.
“Well, as for his family... His mom passed away years ago. As for his dad, I really don't know much. I never pried into that," Bettie said, pausing briefly. She realized she had never asked Lance about his family details.
Bettie recalled that back in high school, Lance's dad was seriously ill. Now, she wasn't sure if he was still alive.
Amirah let out a sigh. "Isn't it about time you met his parents? Don't you even know what's happening with his family? Has he mentioned taking you to meet his family?" Amirah was concerned about Bettie."
"No," Bettie replied, thinking that Lance's father might have died.
With no family left, he hadn't suggested she meet his parents.
Amirah, looking concerned, asked, "What's he up to these days? Is he working at a company, or has he started another one?"
Bettie was taken aback, her nerves fraying. She had forgotten to inquire about this. This time, her preparation was lacking. Lance was to blame, rushing her.
Bettie thought on her feet, offering a smile to Corless and Amirah.
"No worries. When he shows up tomorrow, you'll have the chance to ask him yourselves."
“I'm eager to learn about him now... Can't you just tell me?"
"It's better if you ask him in person tomorrow. What more can I add?"
