Chapter: 1909
"Yes."
“Damn it!" Bettie went absolutely ballistic. She was frustrated.
Shielded by Keilani's connection to Royce, it seemed unlikely for the police to hold Keilani accountable for her actions even if they proved she was behind it.
Bettie was boiling with rage. Despite her fury, it seemed she couldn't do anything to Keilani.
The thought of Keilani evading punishment and continuing to provoke her ignited a firestorm within Bettie, and her face flushed crimson with fury. She was so mad that she found herself unable to muster any appetite for dinner. Her stomach churned with indignation.
With one hand on the steering wheel, Lance intertwined his fingers with Bettie's in a soothing gesture. "Don't be angry."
“How can I not be angry? She'll walk away scot-free, without a care in the world. I can't accept that!"
"Sentencing Keilani is practically impossible. A few days' detention would be the most severe penalty she would face. But to make amends for this situation, Mr. Nelson will surely offer you some compensation. Now that things have come to this, you should think about what you want."
Bettie bit her lip in frustration. She knew all too well her limited strength to fight against Keilani's family. Even Tyrone, with all his influence, had to tread carefully around figures like Royce. Bettie admitted her family couldn't afford to provoke Royce. Furthermore, she doubted her father would face the risk of seeking justice for her.
"I don't want anything. All I want is Keilani's departure as soon as possible! The sight of her family sours my mood!" Bettie rolled her eyes and added, “Oh, and you."
“What about me?" Lance asked.
"Delete Keilani from your contacts."
He blinked, taken aback. "What?"
"Don't contact her anymore. And don't view her as a sister figure anymore. If you don't delete her, you'll lose me. If I catch you talking to Keilani, I'll end our contracts immediately."
“Okay, I'll delete her when I get back," Lance conceded, a helpless smile tugging at his lips.
“By the way, can you let Sabrina know I'm fine?" Bettie let out a weary sigh. Wanting to make a call, she recalled those kidnappers had taken her phone from her and tossed it away.
With one hand, Lance reached into his pocket and took out his phone, handing it to Bettie. “Do it yourself."
Bettie didn't take it. She raised her eyebrows and asked incredulously, “Aren't you afraid I might snoop some secrets in your phone?"
“What secrets? Like nude pictures?"
Knowing he was teasing her again, Bettie chuckled, her lips curling into a playful smile. "Oh, definitely your nude pictures. How embarrassed you'll be if I come across them?"
