Chapter: 1911
Lance hadn't heard a peep from Bettie for quite a long time. He turned his head to see what she was doing, only to find her staring at his wallpaper absentmindedly. His heart skipped a beat, and he quickly withdrew his gaze. He cleared his throat to break the silence and reminded her, "Why haven't you called Sabrina yet?"
“I'm calling her now." Bettie's lips curved into a self-deprecating smile as she shook herself from her reverie. "Lance."
"What?"
"Why were you so bumpkin back then? What made me fall in love with you then? I still can't figure it out."
A scoff escaped Lance's lips. "Well, you were the same back then."
"Then why keep this picture as your wallpaper? Doesn't it hurt your eyes?"
“I like it."
Bettie snorted in response but said nothing.
Though Lance had given her free reign to explore his phone, Bettie didn't pry through it randomly. With a decisive flick of her finger, she navigated to the phone book and dialed Sabrina's number.
Lance continued, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "When you were chasing after me, you showered me with praises. Now, suddenly I was a bumpkin?"
“I was frivolous when I was young..."
"Hello, Lance. Have you found Bettie?" Sabrina asked in worry as soon as she answered the phone.
Bettie replied, "It's me, Sabrina. I'm fine now."
Upon hearing Bettie's voice, Sabrina's tension eased, and she breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness you're okay. I was so worried."
“Lance told me you were the first to realize I was kidnapped. If it weren't for you, I could've been in real danger. Sabrina, I can't thank you enough. I love you so much!"
Lance glanced at Bettie, speechless. What did she say? So, she didn't save that sentence solely for him.
Sabrina remarked, "It's a long story. Where are you at the moment?"
Bettie replied, "I'm on my way to the police station."
"I'll head there as well," Sabrina declared.
"Alright, we'll discuss it when we see each other."
