Chapter: 1941
“We should get going."
“Yeah. Okay." Bettie gave a quick look and followed.
Lance paused, looking down, his face hard to read, as if he was trying to calm a storm inside.
Bettie also stopped, worrying. Was it really broken?
Seemingly aware of what she was thinking, Lance looked at her and commented, "You know, if anything actually goes wrong, you're going to have to own up to it."
"Oh please, it's not like I was really rough," Bettie retorted quietly. “And anyway, it's pretty much your fault. You started this and then you backed out..
When their eyes met, Bettie stopped talking and casually looked away.
The next morning, after putting on her makeup beautifully, Bettie sat at the dining table and noticed Sabrina's outfit. “Aren't you off today? Where are you headed?"
Sabrina, while having her breakfast, shared, "Got an invitation yesterday to shoot someone's wedding photos."
“Wedding photos?" Bettie exclaimed, feigning surprised. "But didn't you mention you don't do private gigs because they don't pay well?"
“The person really liked my work and offered twice my usual rate. Since I'm not too busy lately, I figured why not go for it.”
Bettie glanced down and took a bite of her sandwich, offering a piece of advice. "Just make sure you don't overdo it."
“By the way, have you and Lance set a date for the wedding next month?"
"Yes, we have."
"And your parents, they're happy with Lance?"
Bettie nodded enthusiastically. "Oh, they really like him!"
"What about if you guys end up separating in the future? Would they be okay with that?"
"Uh..." Caught off guard, Bettie paused for a moment. “Well... It's not like they can do much. We're not officially married yet, so technically, there can't be a divorce, right? They'll come around eventually."
“You're right. You've got a busy month ahead."
"Yes, I'm off to the grocery store with him today to figure out what we need."
