Chapter: 1975
"Tyrone, I messed up." Jennie went quiet and reached for Tyrone's hand. "I won't do it again. From now on, I'll tell you, Sabrina, or Karen wherever I'm going and whoever I'm with.”
“That's my good girl." Tyrone motioned to the empty spot beside him.
“Come sit."
As Tyrone observed Jennie, her head hung low, he asked gently, “How's your grandpa? Is he treating you okay?"
“He's great," she said, pulling out a bank card. “He gave me this as a gift."
"And that won you over?" Tyrone teased, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"Nope!" Jennie hopped onto Tyrone's lap, grinning. "No one can buy me off. But hey, money's money, right?"
Tyrone chuckled, pinching her nose. “You little money-lover. Besides the cash, what else did he say?"
Tyrone had his doubts about Kaleb's intentions in coming all the way to Mathias just to give Jennie a gift.
"Grandpa mentioned he wants to take me to Philade to meet my grandma. Maybe staying there for a while," Jennie said, meeting Tyrone's eyes.
Tyrone pressed his lips tightly. Stay there? Or was it more like Kaleb planned to keep Jennie and not let her come back?
"You want to go?" Tyrone asked.
Jennie shook her head.
“Even though he's nice, he's basically a stranger to me. Philade's unknown. How could that beat staying here with Tyrone, going to kindergarten, and hanging with friends?" Jennie thought.
“If you don't want to go, you don't have to. I got you." Tyrone smoothly changed the subject. “Did you eat?"
"Yeah, already did."
"Then call Sabrina. She's worried."
"Got it."
Off Jennie went to make the call while Tyrone dialed Lance, getting straight to the point. "If your parents miss Jennie, they can come to Mathias to visit her here. There's no need to take her to Philade. Please send them my regards."
Lance relayed Tyrone's message to Kaleb as soon as he got back to the hotel.
