Chapter: 2012
“My grandparents are very kind to me," Jennie responded, her brow furrowing slightly. Kaleb was always ready to meet her needs, yet something didn't quite sit right with her. Perhaps she was just not accustomed to it yet.
“That's great to hear. What would you like to do today? Where do you feel Like going?" Sabrina asked, keeping the conversation Light.
"I'm up for anything," Jennie answered nonchalantly. Whenever she was with Sabrina, even a simple activity like watching cartoons became a delightful possibility.
Thus, Sabrina had Brenton drive them to a quaint town nearby where they could soak in the picturesque landscapes and explore a zoo and a botanical garden.
Upon exiting the botanical garden, by pure chance, Sabrina and Jennie bumped into Rita, who was there alone.
Rita caught sight of them and quickly moved to intercept them, exclaiming, “Sabrina, you're here too? What a coincidence!"
As Rita spoke, her eyes drifted over to Jennie, appraising the latter with keen interest. This had to be Keilani's daughter.
She marveled silently at the realization. No wonder Jennie was intelligent and adorable.
Jennie shivered under Rita's gaze and quickly hid behind Sabrina, clutching her clothes. "Bad woman! Go away!"
Rita was momentarily speechless.
"Jennie, don't worry. We're leaving now," Sabrina reassured Jennie, clearly uninterested in engaging with Rita, and they continued on their way.
After they had walked a bit, Jennie glanced back with a scowl and murmured bitterly, "Humph, what is that nasty woman plotting now?"
Jennie's memory was sharp, and she vividly recalled the last unpleasant encounter when Rita had forced her and Sabrina to the hospital to apologize.
"Forget about her, Jennie."
“Hey, Sabrina, how does she know your first name?"
"Jennie, she's actually my biological mother," Sabrina remarked.
Jennie was startled. "She's still alive?"
Sabrina had never mentioned her mother, leading Jennie to believe her mother was no longer alive.
With a wry smile, Sabrina replied, "Yes, she's alive. She remarried when I was quite young, and we've never seen eye to eye. It's easier to act as if she doesn't exist."
"Oh." Pondering for a moment, Jennie ventured, "So, she's somewhat like Keilani?"
