Chapter: 2089
“Ma'am, you've only had a few sips.”
“Having more to drink won't make a difference!"
“But what if it does?" The maternity matron, looking somewhat lost, greeted Sergio as he entered, “Sir.”
A bowl of soup rested on the nightstand.
Since Rogelio arrived, Marnie's meals had been meticulously planned by the maternity matron. Marnie ate small portions frequently. Every afternoon, the maternity matron prepared soup in hopes of boosting Marnie's milk supply. However, these efforts hadn't yielded results for Marnie.
Marnie appreciated the care from the housekeeper and the maternity matron, but after a month of these soups, she had had enough.
However, the maternity matron always insisted it was for Marnie's and Rogelio's benefit. Feeling guilty, Marnie endured it, afraid of being seen as neglectful if she refused.
Today, Marnie finally found the courage to decline, only to be caught by Sergio.
Avoiding Sergio's gaze, Marnie said softly, "Darling."
"Hey." Sergio settled beside the bed, gently brushing Rogelio's sleeping face, and remarked, “If she's not up for it, then forget it. Please take it away."
Witnessing this, the maternity matron had no option but to comply.
Marnie attempted to clarify, "It's not that I'm neglecting Rogelio's health. It's just... It's been a month and I don't think drinking more will help."
"I get it."
"You're so understanding, honey." Observing Sergio's expression, Marnie cautiously inquired, "By the way, honey, I heard from my dad that Shirley did an internship at your company?"
Marnie had always aimed to keep Sergio from meeting Shirley. In her view, their first encounter should have been at her wedding banquet.
Marnie had only found out today, just before lunch, when her dad had mentioned it, that Shirley was interning at the Blakely Group for the summer. Apparently, Shirley worked under Sergio. But Sergio might not have recognized Shirley, otherwise things wouldn't be this way.
Sergio nodded. "Shirley was indeed an intern."
“How did Shirley perform?" Marnie asked.
"She performed well and earned a spot among the top interns."
“What's the point of this?"
