Chapter: 1072
“What do you want to do?"
"We need these stones stacked. How else will I manage to climb over?"
Bennett looked at the wall which he could reach by raising his hand and said, "I'll stack them for you."
When his gaze shifted upward, Claudia realized the height difference between them.
Yep, she was too short.
The size of the stones hinted that others had used them for climbing the wall in the past.
Picking up a couple of stones, Bennett stacked them to a height of about thirty centimeters. This allowed Claudia to almost touch the top of the wall.
To make things easier, he added another stone, which brought the stack to nearly half a meter. Now, if Claudia stood on her toes, she could easily lean over the wall.
However, as Claudia was ready to climb the wall, she encountered a significant issue.
Both of them had just returned from the banquet; he was dressed in a dapper suit with leather shoes, while she donned a dress paired with high heels.
"Do you want to continue?" Bennett looked at her with a little smile in his eyes.
Claudia had moments of sheer determination. Like now, she was dead set on climbing that wall.
Swiftly, she removed her heels, throwing them over the wall.
"If I don't get over there, I lose my shoes.”
With her words, she lifted the hem of her dress, stepped onto the stones, and grasped the wall to hoist herself up and sit on it.
Luckily, her motorboat-driving workouts had honed her arm strength; otherwise, today's climb might have been a failed endeavor.
After successfully climbing the wall, Claudia was about to Leap down when she noticed that the ground below was uneven in the dim moonlight.
She looked at her feet and hesitated.
If she jumped down, would she hurt her feet upon landing?
Bennett hadn't anticipated Claudia's daring move. Concerned she might injure herself, he immediately urged, "Hold on, let me go first."
Swiftly, he adjusted his shirt, loosening the top buttons and the cuff links. Using a stone as a step, he climbed the wall with ease, gracefully landing on the other side.
Seeing his quick movements, Claudia was left awestruck.
She was concerned that he might not follow suit, so she decided to demonstrate first. To her surprise, Bennett climbed the wall even more smoothly than she did.
Now, standing by the cemetery wall, Bennett gazed upwards, arms outstretched, and said, “Jump, Cece. Trust me, I'll catch you."
