Chapter: 1227
What else could he be keeping from her?
Taking her hand, Bennett gently squeezed it and said, “It's not that I can't tell you. It's just that it's not necessary to talk about it."
Expressing her frustration, Claudia snorted and remarked, “Well, I'll find out sooner or later."
Bennett smiled and gazed at her. She reminded him of a curious and slightly exasperated child, which made her look adorable. “Yes, I'm sure you'll uncover the identity sooner or later."
The way he was staring at her brought a blush to her cheeks.
Even though he didn't say anything, she still felt embarrassed.
She finally abandoned trying to figure out the person he was referring to.
Shifting the conversation, she glanced at Bennett nervously and said, "There's another thing I need to tell you, Bennett."
Raising an eyebrow, Bennett indicated that she should continue.
After a moment of hesitation, Claudia slowly disclosed, "When I had lunch with Lucille today, someone paid the bill for me again."
"Xavier?" Bennett lowered his eyes to conceal the somberness that lingered within them.
"I didn't see him, but I couldn't think of anyone else except him."
"Okay. How about we treat Xavier to dinner on Saturday?"
Xavier had paid the bill for Claudia twice. Even though money wasn't an issue for them, the gesture of a man paying for a lady could be misinterpreted and taken the wrong way.
However, since Xavier hadn't approached her inappropriately and only paid for her restaurant bills, he wasn't guilty of anything else.
Claudia recognized the need to manage the situation delicately. If she confronted him and he denied it, it could be awkward.
If Bennett joined her in repaying Xavier with a similar gesture, it would maintain goodwill on both ends and display respect towards Xavier.
Understanding Bennett's perspective, she nodded and confirmed, “That's a good idea."
At that moment, a knock sounded on the door.
"Mr. and Mrs. Dreskin, dinner is ready," said Marcia.
Glancing at Bennett, Claudia remarked, "Come on, it's time for dinner."
"Okay." Bennett's gaze lingered on her, and he smiled faintly. “Let's go to bed early tonight."
When he stared at her like that, her heart fluttered, and her face was hot. She quickly wriggled out of his embrace and said, “Let's go eat."
Then she put on her slippers and hurried out of the room.
