Chapter: 1231
When she reached the bedroom, Bennett was nowhere to be seen. He was clearly engrossed in his work in the study.
Claudia gathered her clothes and headed to the bathroom for a shower.
By the time she emerged, the clock showed it was already half past nine, and Bennett was yet to return.
After her skincare routine, she lounged on the bed, hesitating if she should check on Bennett in his study.
"Forget it. He should be busy."
Throughout their six-month marriage, Bennett rarely brought work home.
On the odd occasion he did, it was a short meeting or some paperwork, usually wrapping up in thirty minutes.
But he had been occupied for over two hours today. It was the first time Claudia had witnessed him in such a state.
Curious about his work, she picked up her phone and browsed recent news related to Bennett's company.
Most of it was just news, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Reading consumed more of her time than she realized. When Claudia finally set her phone aside, it was already 10.
Descending the stairs, she filled two glasses with water. She left one in her room and, with the other in hand, approached the study and gave the door a soft knock.
As soon as she put down her hand, Bennett's cold voice came from inside. "The door is not closed."
Claudia gently turned the doorknob, and the door swung open.
Stepping in, she noticed Bennett intently seated at his desk.
Wearing a pair of thin glasses perched on the bridge of his nose, Bennett appeared modest and refined.
Feeling a flutter in her chest, Claudia set the water near him and questioned, “Are you still busy?"
“Are you sleepy?"
He extended his arms and enveloped her in a warm embrace. Seated on his lap, Claudia glanced at the computer and noticed several forms displayed on the screen simultaneously.
Worried she might see confidential details, she quickly averted her gaze.
In response to his comment, she gave a gentle shake of her head.
Bennett lifted the glass of water that Claudia had just set down and drank most of it. Afterward, he removed his glasses and said, "I've got a bit more to do."
“Oh, okay, then I won't disturb you," she said, trying to get up from him and stop disturbing him.
She didn't expect his hands on her waist to suddenly tighten.
