Chapter: 1349
Breck turned his attention to Claudia. "Claudia," he said, catching her off guard.
"Yes?" she replied, slightly surprised.
"I heard Aurora's switched jobs recently. Is that so?"
Knowing the two of them were close, Claudia confirmed with a nod, "Yes, she's landed a role at her dream company.”
“That's wonderful news."
"Indeed."
Bennett, momentarily distracted, set his cup aside to listen in.
Breck, touching his nose, chose not to delve further into Aurora's affairs, his demeanor turning somewhat awkward.
As Grover walked in from answering the phone, Breck gestured him over, saying, "Hey, come here. I've got a thing for the Cullinan in your garage."
After settling down, Grover gave Breck a glance and quipped, “Dang, you're really pumped about losing some cash, huh?"
He said it all cool, like he'd just won a jackpot from Breck.
Claudia couldn't help but grin at the banter.
Under the table, Bennett squeezed her hand and leaned in, whispering, "What's so amusing?"
His warm breath tickled her ear, making Claudia squirm a bit. She nudged him playfully. "Just Breck and Grover's chat."
Bennett casually eyed Breck, remarking, "I guess that's his only ace."
His voice wasn't exactly hushed, so Breck caught every word. “Hey, Bennett, caught you talking smack."
"I'm just stating facts. Nothing nasty."
Breck retorted, “Watch it! Remember, we've been pals for over two decades. I've got a stash of embarrassing tales about you."
Then he turned to Claudia, teasing, “Claudia, ever heard your husband's embarrassing stories?"
Feeling awkward but curious, Claudia held her tongue, eager to hear what Breck had to say next.
Breck glanced at Bennett.
Bennett just smirked, saying nothing. Breck got spooked by Bennett's stare, swallowing whatever he was about to spill. "Alright, let's deal some cards."
Claudia felt a pang of disappointment as Breck left his story hanging.
But she figured it'd be too awkward to pry, so she focused on the poker game instead.
