Chapter: 249
He shrugged with his eyebrows raised, indicating her to go ahead.
“You just said that you don't Like sweet things, but you asked the maid to buy watermelons and grapes which are sweet fruits. Why is that?"
Claudia purposely enunciated the word, sweet. However, she didn't mean any harm or trouble. She was just curious.
“Oh, there seems to be some misunderstanding here."
At that, Claudia looked at him with a confused frown.
“I didn't ask anyone to buy these fruits, the housekeeper got them.”
With that, Bennett leaned back on the sofa, crossed his legs casually, and said slowly, “Perhaps the housekeeper assumed that you-my wife-have got a sweet tooth. So, she got them just to please you."
There was nothing wrong with the way Bennett addressed her. She was indeed his wife even though their marriage was just for show.
However, the way those two words rolled off his tongue so easily made her feel some type of way. Her cheeks flushed instantly.
“Oh, I see," she uttered, brushing her cheek down to her burning ear.
It was so embarrassing.
She had felt this way one too many times already. As a result, she decided not to ask questions like this again.
Remembering the poor cook, Claudia bit the bullet.
"You barely touched your lunch earlier. Don't you like fish and spare ribs? Are they too sweet for you?"
Bennett glanced at her. "I guess."
“What do you mean?"
"I mean that's only part of the reason."
Claudia was rendered speechless.
There was a hint of mischief in his eyes. She squinted at him, realizing that he was teasing her.
After eating up the watermelon, Claudia braced herself up for what she was about to do. She tried as much as possible to look calm and then said, "I personally asked Marcia to make those dishes for Lunch. She did an excellent job. Can we keep her?"
She held her breath and stared at Bennett with bright eyes, praying inwardly that he wouldn't say no.
Bennett stared at her puppy eyes. In a matter of seconds, the word “no” flew out of his vocabulary.
“She can stay if you Like her."
Claudia's tense nerves eased up instantly. She said with a smile, “Thank you."
