Chapter: 269
Claudia pressed her lips together, and then with a hint of mortification admitted, "I might have overstepped, making your father angry."

Bennett regarded her before breaking into a smile. He gently stroked her head to soothe her, saying, "You actually did well."

“What?" Had she misheard?

Her surprised expression lightened Bennett's mood significantly.

He didn't elaborate further and instead asked, “Still hungry?"

Claudia caught her lip in her mouth, answering, “A bit."

Despite having started to eat earlier, the sudden altercation had left her unable to finish her meal.

She mischievously licked her lips, appearing to Bennett like an endearing little fox. The gleam of her lips was irresistible.

Bennett's gaze darkened. He reached up, brushing his thumb across her lips. "You have a bit of sauce here."

Claudia blushed, stammering, "Th... Thanks."

He nonchalantly brushed his thumb against his forefinger, replying, “No problem."

Claudia felt awkward. After a brief pause, she reached out, lightly touching Bennett. "Before we head back, we should grab a bite."

Her touch sent a shock through Bennett. Even through the fabric of his shirt, he could feel the softness of her hand.

“What do you feel like eating?"

Bennett couldn't help but swallow hard.

What would you Like, then?"

“Anything. Your choice."

“No, you take a pick."

Claudia thought Bennett was having a hard day and, despite the calm facade he was putting on.

She wanted him to have something he liked, hoping the food would lighten up his mood.

He didn't argue further and instructed Allan to drive them to a nice restaurant he frequented.

Claudia could see that Bennett was eating less than usual.

By the time they returned to their car, it was half-past eight.

The ride home was silent.
