Chapter: 321
Her face instantly burned hot. She curled her toes so hard that they hurt. She felt Like a high school student who had just been caught by her parents playing video games in the night instead of sleeping.
Wearing a bitter smile, she raised her head a bit and uttered, “It's no biggie. I only played the game for fun, after all."
On the contrary, it was actually a big deal to Claudia. She was beginning to wonder if she would ever get past that level.
With a quick motion of the hand, Bennett beckoned on her. "Come here." Claudia's Lashes fluttered as she walked over obediently.
The moment the distance between them shortened, a familiar fragrance filled her nose, easing up her tense nerves instantly.
She stopped just a few inches away from him and finally raised her head. Her beautiful eyes glistened with suspicion and confusion. "Here IT am. What's wrong?"
Bennett stared into her eyes as he fumbled his suit pocket. Seconds later, he took out a small gift box. "I got you something.”
“Well That's so thoughtful of you, but I don't think it's appropriate."
Claudia didn't see the need for him to buy her a gift.
“Is it because you think it's too cheap?"
“Far from it. In giving, it's the thought that counts. I just don't feel comfortable accepting a gift from you since our marriage is... you know."
After shoving the box into her hand, Bennett walked past her and made a beeline for the stairs. "You are reading too much meaning to it. I was present when Jackson bought a gift for his girlfriend. To make things less awkward, I decided to buy you one as well.”
"Oh..." Claudia blushed again, realizing her gaffe. She came around and stared at his back.
“Thank you."
“You are welcome.”
Bennett's seemed to be tired. He rubbed his temples as he dragged his feet all the way upstairs.
Claudia gawked at him until he disappeared out of sight.
Then, she gave herself a slap on the head. She mumbled to herself, “Stupid! How could you have flattered yourself yet again?"
She opened the box and found that it contained candies.
Not one of those special exquisite candies. It was just mango-flavored ones.
No wonder he had asked her if she was turning it down because it was too cheap.
She opened one and put it into her mouth. It tasted delicious. She picked up her phone and was about to go up to her room to sleep.
Suddenly, she drew up short when there was a violent knock at the door
It had completely skipped her mind that Aurora had mentioned calling the cops.
