Chapter: 33
He had spent many nights pondering his actions at the wedding and conceding his excesses.
He didn't mean to hurt Claudia, and he was merely trying to help Delilah.
He hadn't anticipated the car accident and was consumed with remorse.
During Claudia's hospitalization, when he was forcefully ejected by Jace and Aurora, he could only steal glances at a sleeping Claudia from outside her ward.
Having spent twelve years together, Anthony's decision had always gravitated towards Claudia despite the struggles.
He wasn't a man of changing loyalties, only one carrying a burden of guilt towards Delilah.
Claudia could vent her anger on him, but wasn't he entitled to a chance to explain himself?
The cold stranger that Claudia had become was a source of growing fear for Anthony. He feared that this might be the end of their relationship.
Anthony remained silent for a while. Kase watched him, worrying that Anthony might smash the phone, but he chose to remain silent in the face of his boss’ gloomy mood.
About half a minute later, Anthony returned the phone to Kase and inquired, "What's the status on that yacht I asked you to buy?"
Anthony had planned to present Claudia, who loved the sea, with a yacht on their anniversary day.
Despite their spoiled wedding and his not being the one to marry Claudia, the yacht was ready.
“It arrived last Friday."
“Give me the keys."
“Right away, sir."
Kase, finally able to exhale, hastened to his desk to fetch the keys.
Claudia's actions left Anthony restless and he chose to leave the office early.
Two hours before their dinner, Anthony went to the harbor to personally inspect his gift for Claudia. It was a symbol of his love.
He planned to surprise Claudia later.
He believed it was a perfect plan, unaware of the cruel reality awaiting him.
The Nixons held the dinner in high esteem. Anthony's parents were present, and even Everly had made her appearance.
As per schedule, Claudia and Jace made their entrance into the private room. Spotting Anthony's absence, Jace's frosty tone filled the room.
