Chapter: 360
The moment Zaria saw Bennett, she dropped the teacup and stood up with a smile.
“Hey, Bennett. I was hoping we could-—"
“You and I have no business together, Zaria. I'm a married man. And a faithful one at that. I don*t want my wife to second-guess my faithfulness to her because of you," Bennett cut her off rudely.
He then looked at the door. Even a blind man could see that he was telling her to get the hell out.
There was no need for Claudia to say anything.
His statement was enough. More so, since his stepmother didn't come to make trouble for her, she felt it was inappropriate to say something at this time.
Strangely, Zaria's smile remained plastered to her face. She said in the calmest tone ever, “You misunderstood me, Bennett."
Seeing how calm Zaria remained, Claudia couldn't help admiring her. Gosh! This woman had it all together. How patient she was!
If she was in Zaria's shoes, she would be at the gate of the villa by now.
After a pause, Zaria looked at Claudia and said, “Actually, I came here to see Claudia, not you."
Claudia was surprised. What manoeuvering trick did she just use? That was a move she had never seen anyone use before!
Bennett's face hardened even more. He folded his arms and asked, “And what business do you have with my wife?"
By way of answer, Zaria took out a gift box from her bag and put it on the table. "Last night, Claudia saved me from drowning. I came here to thank her sincerely."
She turned to Claudia.
“This is a token of my appreciation, Claudia. I hope you won't refuse. I wouldn't be standing here today if you hadn't saved me. Thank you so much."
Zaria's clasped hands were under her chin as she spoke with a sincere smile. Her gaze toward Claudia also Looked genuine.
Claudia subconsciously glanced at Bennett, her round eyes filled with doubt. This couldn't be good, could it?
After glancing at Claudia, Bennett took it upon himself to respond.
“Just make sure to watch your step next time. Claudia won't be there to save you always.”
“You are right, Bennett. I'd have been a goner if Claudia wasn't there. People will not always be there to save me, so I will be extra careful from now on," Zaria said, nodding as her smile remained.
She reverted her eyes to Claudia. "Why don't you take a Look at what I got you, Claudia? I'd love to know if you like it."
Zaria looked at her expectantly like a puppy who was waiting for its owner's approval after bringing a weird item home.
Claudia wasn't one to be easily persuaded by reason or coaxed forcefully. Although she still couldn't tell what trick Zaria just used, she couldn't say no because of the way Zaria Looked so nice and sincere.
“Okay, Let me have a Look."
