Chapter: 380
With her remark done, she turned to Jackson.
“Let's leave. Thank you." She started to walk away but paused to throw a parting shot at Amya, “Since Mr. Nixon and Miss Murray are getting along so well, why didn't he send someone to drive you home, huh, Miss Murray's best friend? Ah, I forgot, some relationships are merely facades. Yet, some couples need not flaunt their affection, because it's just evident to the observant eye.”
With Claudia absent, no one came to her defense. Aurora turned to Jackson, seeking validation. "Isn't that so?"
She added a sly wink, hoping that Bennett's secretary would catch her hint.
Jackson indulged her with a smile.
“Indeed, Miss Haywood. Like Mr. and Mrs. Dreskin."
Aurora wanted to applaud him, but she held back in the company of Kristy and the others.
She offered a sneer, threw a final glance at Amya, held Kristy's gaze for a moment before announcing, "I must be going. He is Mr. Dreskin's secretary after all. I wouldn't want to keep him waiting. Goodbye!" With a satisfied wave, she left with Jackson.
Aurora's cryptic comments were not lost on the bystanders.
Their interpretations turned the scene sour, particularly for Kristy whose face betrayed her rage.
Amya wasn't feeling great either.
Indeed, Aurora's words were spot-on.
Aurora, as Claudia's friend, had been given a ride home by Bennett's secretary, while Amya, Kristy's friend, was left stranded by Anthony.
Amya could not help but feel a tinge of resentment towards Anthony and Kristy, despite trying to justify the differing situations to herself.
“Mr. Nixon, Claudia has been escorted away by her husband. Why are you still here? Hoping she'd return to you?" Amya asked sarcastically, causing Anthony to blanch.
Kristy frowned.
“Amya!” Ignoring Kristy, Amya huffed and turned away.
Kristy felt dejected but had to conceal her emotions due to the onlookers.
“Anthony, let's head back.”
Anthony, without a word, stepped forward with his umbrella, barely acknowledging Kristy who had to hustle to keep up.
“Initially, I thought the first guy was rather handsome. But then, when the second guy showed up, the first one seemed rather ordinary!"
“Look at this pair. The man is so indifferent towards the woman. She's getting drenched! The previous couple was adorable though. The moment they saw each other, she jumped into his arms. So romantic! And he even tilted the umbrella to shield her from the rain! I've recorded it!"
Kristy happened to overhear these remarks. She froze as her face drained of all warmth.
At the same time.
